Guysborough Historical Society

In 1973 the Memory Lane Historical Club, a community group interested in preserving the history and culture of Guysborough and area, filed for incorporation under the Societies Act of Nova Scotia and changed their name to the Guysborough Historical Society. Later in that year the society obtained the local courthouse which was developed into their community museum. The mandate of the Guysborough Historical Society is to collect papers, books, pictures, drawings, maps, manuscripts, etc that serve to illustrate the history of the area. Presently the Guysborough Historical Society continues to operate the Old Court House Museum. Their mandate has expanded, it now has become well known for its large collection of genealogical records. It has acquired church records, birth and death records, as well as census records for Guysborough County.
