General description:

The description of records and the creation of finding aids are at the heart of all archival work. To make this work easier, Canadian archivists have developed the Rules for Archival Description, 2nd edition (known as RAD) as a standard model to follow. This two-day workshop will introduce RAD and the principles behind it, as well as explain how to apply the rules and provide some hands-on practice.

Participants are required to bring a copy of RAD to the workshop. You can download a free copy from Canadian Council of Archives

This workshop is part of the CNSA Archival Certificate Program.

Learning Method:

Learning is done through a combination of lecture, personal reading, small group discussion, and practical exercises over a 2-day period in an informal, friendly atmosphere.

Prior knowledge required:

Arrangement and Description workshop or equivalent experience.
